“I definitely should make a blog.”
I kept saying this to myself since few years ago. We all have these little desires we say we want to do, but often, we ignore them saying “Not now, soon when I graduate”, “Soon, when I get enough money”; then in the end, will not do them anyway. I did not dream, even for once of being a writer when I was a kid. But growing up, I learned to read books, articles, and blogs. That was the time when I noticed how literary pieces affect people. Three years ago, I was a completely different person. I was a militant atheist, aimlessly debating with random people on the internet. It was fun. Well, a few seconds ago, I thought it was a waste of time but it was fun, and if I haven’t done that, maybe I won’t be who I am today.
Books.. I was saying books were the ones that changed me the most. No, it was books, and experiences. If a certain event din’t happen to me, I would have never picked up that book. Looking back, it’s funny how one thing can lead to something really extraordinary. It’s fascinating how our failures could help us look for ways.
We change every moment we experience something, yet we are not aware of that. We’re not that sensitive to changes that happen to ourselves. I only discovered this after reading a book the second time. Around two years ago, a friend lent me the book ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coelho. I was a skeptic that time and things that has ‘spirituality’ or ‘destiny’ themes didn’t catch my eye. I only skimmed through the book and didn’t really appreciate the symbolism its trying to provide. Reading it again, I was amazed how I had goosebumps in almost every page. It was like a whole different book. This led me to realize how things change when we do. I have understood that when something evolves, everything around that thing evolves as well. That when we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too.
The first time I heard about alchemy, the first thing that came to me is turning anything into gold. It’s like the first form of chemistry. But thanks to the book, The Alchemy and the articles I found on the internet. I discovered what alchemy really is; that turning lead to gold, was transforming ourselves to become better than we were. Well, there’s much more to that, and were going to learn a lot more. I decided to start this blog primarily to record my progress, and improve my writing skills. But remembering how reading changed me, maybe a lost soul will one day stumble upon this website and find answers. Maybe writing will not only transform myself, but also those who read.
Well this concludes my first blog post. It’s actually somehow difficult writing this first one but I’m glad I started. Now, it’s time to get ready. First day of our short term classes starts in two hours.
PS: Thanks to Trisha of P.S. I’m on my way for inspiring us to blog during the Online Influencers Bootcamp here in Baguio.
